Hi , Welcome to our home! I am so excited to be a part of the 2015 Fall Home Tours hosted by the Lovely Marty from A Stroll Thru Life.
If you are visiting from 21 Rosemary lane or for those of you who are first time visitors, I wanted to give a quick introduction. My name is kelly and we moved to Virginina from Connecticut a year ago for a career opportunity for my husband. I left my dream job as a School Based Child and Family Therapist for my ultimate dream job as a stay at home mom. I have a daughter Grace who is 21 months and a 4 year old Son Jack.
I feel fortunate to be able to stay home with my children while they are young, I love being home, but between the dirty dishes and dirty diapers I desperately crave a creative outlet.
In 2014 I began my design blog and Instagram account. Gradually my hobby and passion has become a part time job that fits in perfectly with my ultimate love of being a mother. Today I am very thankful to have a great balance between the two.
Since we live in Virginia the weather is still very warm so I wanted to ease into the transition of fall. I decided to add white pumpkins , white flowers and neutral fall decor to the inside of our home and left the orange and traditional fall colors to the outdoor spaces for now. When the weather gets cooler in late October I will begin to add some orange and brown inside for Thanksgiving.
I added simple burlap and rope on the mums and the haystacks were purchased at Walmart. This entire front porch was inexpensive and easy to create.
If you look carefully in the picture below you will see my daughter peeking through the window. My children always have a way of finding me! Grace is like my little shadow and she likes to be my little helper.
I was very lucky to find a cute farm only 1/2 mile down the road from our home that was already selling pumpkins (AND WHITE PUMPKINS TOO)! Being in Virginia I was worried I wouldn't find any this early in the season. The large gourd and cinnamon sticks were also found at the farm. The cinnamon sticks smell beautiful. Its amazing how sent can make you "feel" the fall season... (even if its still 90 degrees outside). The gourd is hollowed out so I can use it for years to come.
The potpourri also found at the farm has tiny little pumpkins and acorns. (how adorable). Also adding to the sent of the room.
Extra blankets and pillows help the family room feel more cozy. I can't wait until its cool enough to have a fire in the fireplace and have family movie night!
Tomatoes are still in season and they are so delicious. Its always this time of year that you savor the taste , knowing you will not taste a tomato the same until they are back next summer.
I wanted to ease into fall and keep my home feeling light and bright. This was a challenge because the light and bright feel I love isn't also conducive to fall decor. I think I may have pulled it off
I continued the light and bright "fall" decor by adding golds, white and browns in my formal living room. . I moved the gold pillows from the guest bedroom to the living room . I love shopping in my own home. You can completely change the look of your home without spending any money. You can see how these pillows looked in my guest bedroom in my Summer Home Tour here.
Not too overly "fall" but certainly cozy and warm. I have learned you can have a lot of white in your home without it feeling too cold. White is also the perfect backdrop if you like to experiment with different colors. I added a soft coral pink to this room in the summer . You can see that room here to experience how just the change of pillows and accents can transform the look and feel of a space.
Below is a picture of a centerpiece I made for the dining room. The branches are from a flowering tree in our front yard. I then added candles and white pumpkins and more cinnamon sticks to add that beautiful sent. The centerpiece wasIn expensive and very easy to create.
I added more color to my deck. I took away all the light blue that I used this summer and added more neutral and beige . Pumpkins, blankets and mums create a fall feel to my deck. Just a few quick changes go a long way. See my summer deck here.
